Note
The Florida collection consists of folders 276 through 337 on microfilm reels no. 23-28. It covers a date range from 1902-1963. In general, the collection reveals the inner workings of the General Education board (GEB); shows how it specifically aided countless African-American schools, teachers and students throughout Florida; and illustrates the tense race relations of the early twentieth century and the efforts of determined leaders to overcome hostility. The documents are organized by location or institution. Included are reports by GEB's state agents on educational conditions in the south and various school problems, correspondence among GEB officers, institutions requesting aid, and state agents, and pamphlets from the institutions requesting aid. Each reel contains a reel guide. The collection is located in FLA MICROFILM DR 38. A print version of the guide for the Early Southern Program that covers all the southern states in the program is located in the Florida Collection. The call number is FLA 378.3 G326Mo Subser.1.
