Summary
Addictions is often about being emotionally dependent on a substance as it is about being chemically depending. The users see the dependence on drugs or alcohol as a way of coping, but when the high wears off the problems are still there, and the false sense of hope is gone. Gordon examines the negative impact addiction has on the body, and explains the types of treatment available as well as the varying chances for recovery. -- adapted from introduction
