The Society of the Descendants of Pilgrim John Howland, of the Ship Mayflower was organized at the Parker House in Boston, Massachusetts on May 18, 1897. It was incorporated in September 1911. In 1912, they purchased the Howland House in Plymouth, Massachusetts, an historic house which they restored and opened to the public. The Society published a magazine, "The Howland homestead" from July 1911 to April 1913. The Society's name was changed to the Pilgrim John Howland Society, Inc. in 1925. In 1936, they began publishing "The Howland quarterly." The Society also maintains the home site property in Rocky Nook, Kingston, Massachusetts.
